Awesome job you are doing out here. Love your soup recipes and breakfast options. Keep up the great job!
Your website is a wonderful resource for people. I have it listed as a recommended website on a resource page for my yoga students and thai massage clients. Thanks for your generosity! Peace, Sophie
This is such a fantastic website! I send it to my nutrition clients all the time - so glad to see other people pass it around as well. I think you should have a book - with recipes, sketches, blogs, etc...it would be such a wonderfully holistic book. There's a sense of care and warmth in your writing. By the way, my toddler loves your recipes. Thank you for sharing!
What a delightful website! I stumbled across it when searching for alkaline recipes. I am vegan and have just embarked on a detox which emits mostly acid forming foods such as sugar and wheat products. Some of your recipes look simply delicious (chickpea soup and detox soup especially) and I can't wait to get to the market tomorrow to buy the ingredients. Thank you for your time and effort put into this website and for sharing it with all internet users. Peace, Madeleine.
Awesome site, Claudia!
Hi! I have looked for a website like this forever. So happy I found it. Nice to have an ayurvedic online community, instead of just reading books. Also, I appreciate all your photos. Most ayurvedic cookbooks don't have real photos and it can be intimidating not knowing what your end result is going to look like. When you make a cookbook, let me know!

This is just the site I was looking for. Thank you so much. I was wondering if you have any suggestions for recipes that are easily altered per portion. I am vata, but my husband is pitta. I don't want to always cook neutral meals for us. So many of the vata recipes are so appealing to me. I don't want to always be avoiding them for his sake. Thanks again.
Thank you everyone for your lovely comments!!
In response to the anonymous one just before this comment, there are a few things you can do to cook for a Vata and a Pitta in the same meal. One is that you can focus on foods with Kapha qualities, which balances both Vatas and Pittas (foods that are heavy, earthy and moist). You as a Vata can add extra spice to your dish with chutneys, a ginger-garlic-coriander salsa, a sprinkle of cayenne, etc, and serve your food hot. Your husband as a pitta can add raita (yogurt with cucumber and mint) to his dishes and cool the food down a bit. There are also special dosha-specific seasonings you can have at the table to just add to your foods, to any dish, to balance out your individual doshas -- they are called churans, and you've inspired me to post about them -- check back soon!
I just found your website and am enjoying it very much. I need wheat-free (and gluten-free) recipes so always appreciate healthy vegetable-based vegetarian recipes...
That's great, seamaiden! Most of the dishes on this blog are in fact gluten-free -- many dishes are rice-based, pasta dishes can always use rice noodles, and my baked goods recipes offer alternate flours to use (my favourite for baking is barley flour, or a combo of kamut, rice and arrowroot flours).
Hi all! I love the site. I just signed up for a program in November held at a new resort called Cavallo Point. In case anyone wants join me, here's what I am doing. Can't wait to get started! http://www.cavallopoint.com/program_adv_wellbeing.php
Hi! I have been following your blog for some time now. I also am a Pitta-Kapha. I have a food blog (foodophilia.blogspot.com) in the formative stage right now. You are listed as a favorite. Have you read Eating Mindfully by Dr. Susan Albers? It seems like somthing you'd be interested in. Thank you for the inspiration.

Nice website! Love the vegan recipes -- great pictures too. I like that you use whole foods, unlike a lot of vegan recipes that use imitation meat and dairy. Your diet advice for vegans is very helpful for someone transitioning to this type of diet.
Beautiful site, Fran!
Your recipes are very refreshing, original and simple. Great pictures too.
I enjoyed reading the yoga postures as well.
Cheers, Sue
Hey!
I just wanted to let you know that I'm amazed by you. Not only do you have a great blog, but u r such a talented artist. How on earth do you have time to work and cook and blog?! I was also wondering how you learned about Ayurveda. You seem VERY well-versed and I am just beginning my journey both in Ayurveda and the blogosphere. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. I've got a link to you on my blog at: www.thelifeofkiley.com
Come visit anytime!!
I just found your site, and am finding it tremendously helpful!! I've recently discovered Ayurveda and am on Day 2 of my new Kapha-pacifying diet. The information you've posted has been fantastic!!
Thanks so much. :)
Anita
can you recommend some foods to reduce gas/bloating ... that help ease digestion and keep the digestive system healthy? my stools are soft/mushy and I have heard that it is better to have long, firm log-like stools. also what is a natural way to clean out the system/colon? bran doesn't do it for me and I do not want to resort to these powders/gimmicks
Thanks everyone for leaving such lovely messages in my guestbook!! :-)
To the last anonymous message, following a vata-pacifying diet will help reduce gas/bloating, and is also the easiest kind of food to digest. For help on that front you can start by visiting this website or do a search for "vata pacifying diet". As for stools, there can be so many factors to its consistency, so just try a vata diet for a while and see if it helps. And I find the best way to clear out the intestines is through having psyllium before your larger meals (a full teaspoon in a glass of water, followed by some more liquid). But a warning, it does produce some gas!
Wow, this site looks great. I think it's exactly what I've been looking for. Thank you so much.
Please, will you marry me ?
New to Ayurvedic health but really am fascinated by the possibilities. The Detox Soup was great. I'm anxious to try more recipes.
Thanks. I just found your blog. I would like to try fasting, but am too afraid to give it a go because I'm such a grazer and can't stay still. I love to read all your posts. Thanks!
I followed the trail of sesame seeds here, from EatLiveRun.com
Looking forward to reading!

Fran, my dear, would you be so kind as to add a "snacks" section to your recipes, for us Vata's with the munchies?
Oh, and if you’re free, we should get married.
Excellent site. I will be back often for recipes and yoga poses. I was surprised to see you are in Toronto too. I love your illustrations on your other blogs as well. Great work!!

Namaste ! Thank you very much for this service. So much knowledge of ayurveda is being disseminated, but it is sad that someone rarely mentions that it is a partial incarnation of Lrod Vishnu, known as Sri Dhanvantari that has given us this knowledge. Let us give credit where credit is due, and express our gratitude.
With gratitude,
Gaura Das
This is a wonderful site. I am an Ayurvedic practioner in Idaho, and will recommend this site to patients looking for recipes. Thank you.

Wow! Love your site -- so hard to find good info on Ayurveda -- LOVE IT -- really has a great look and feel and organization. Thank you!
What do you think of people diagnosing their own constitution? I've done classic Ayurveda treatments in the past and was wondering. Could you post answer here?
Thanks!
Hi Leslie! Thanks for your comment and question. In my opinion (which is not professional, strictly based on personal experience), our imbalances change day to day so we are our best judge of what we need to do to balance ourselves. Got pimples or getting angry at stuff? Balance Pitta. Feeling lethargic and craving sweet snacks? Balance Kapha. Etc. This is what I'm doing for myself, but with the knowledge that Pitta is my predominant element.
That said, if there is a chronic or long-lived condition that one needs healing, it can be a very complex situation with deep rooted causes or specific organ imbalances that is best treated with a professional Ayurvedic practitioner.
Hope this helps! :) ~Claudia
Oh my goodness, I love your website! Such a wonderful resource of the Ayurvedic lifestyle. I am always on the lookout for yummy balancing dishes (I am a pitta/vata).
Like you, I am fond of comics. I especially like drawing vegetables :)
Namaste,

Thanks to everyone for stopping by and saying such nice things about my blog!
And Hi Claudia at Clary Sage! I'd be happy to try to help, though I'm self-taught at Ayurveda so I'm by no means a professional. Nevertheless, feel free to ask me at me [at] claudiadavila [dot] com... :-)
Hi! I am a big fan of the carob and I am happy to find some new recipes in your blog. I'll try to share with you some of mines too.

love to see you put ayurvedic recipies up here. as a yogi i have been trying to put ayuveda into my practice. i love that there are modifications for each dosha and i will recomend this blog to all my fellow yogis...
Hello, i stumbled upon your website while searching what Kapha was. i am as described a kapha. i am a 48 year old female about 15 lbs overweight and just found out i have insulin resistance. i am wondering if following the way kapha says i should eat i might find help with both the weight and insulin resistance. Can you tell me how can i find a sample of what a daily menu would be? this is all very confusing to me. i am however very interested in all i have read. Thank you for taking the time.
Thank you everyone for your enthusiasm over my site! To the last anonymous poster, I absolutely think that following a Kapha diet (and lifestyle!) will help both your weight and insulin issues. Ideally you could find an ayurvedic practitioner to visit for a personalized regimen. Otherwise, consider getting a good book to help you along. I recommend "Ayurvedic Cooking For Westerners", by Amadea Morningstar -- you can get this on Amazon. "Eat-Taste-Heal" by Thomas Yarema looks very promising though I haven't read it. If you don't have access to a practitioner, I think getting a good book or two will really help. Best of luck!
Fran, you are great!!! Thanks a lot for your blog. I´m from Argentine and is very difficult for me to find vegetarian and vata recipes. Ayurvedic is practically unknown here. You saved my every day life!!!! Thanks again.
Fantastic site! I am studying Ayurveda and was so happy to come across your site, there are so many recipes to try. I have recently started a blog and I have added you to my list of sites. Looking forward to more delicious recipes and information. Namaste

Hi Fran,
Things have changed so much in my life once I realized I was an out-of-balance Pitta! :) Your site is so lovely and well organized, and offers amazing simple recipes. I sometimes just browse through for inspiration and then create my own recipes based on a few of yours! I've passed this blog site along to many of my friends and they all love it too.
Big thanks,
Eliza

wow! I can't believe I have gone this long without stumbling onto your site. So informative and helpful. Have recently been seen by an Ayurvedic Vaidya in the US. He has diagnosed me as Vata-kapha in constitution. Had lot of health issues lately, regular doctors couldn't diagnose me. Trying to find ways to eat healthy and stay healthy. I am in my 30's and am shocked that so many of us are suffering serious digestive issues these days, so early on.Thanks for the great articles. I plan to stay hooked and religiously follow your recipes.
i absolutely love love your blog. Have a look at this book Red Velvet Chocolate Heartache: The ultimate feel-good book of natural cakes that taste naughty by

This is hands down the best Ayurvedic recipe site out there. Thanks for all your hard work and delicious, healthy recipes!
Hi,
I am Vegan and allergic to soy and Omega 3 (Flaxseed, Rapeseed etc.). I have found some of your Vegan Recipies OK (Not cooked any yet as just found blog).
What can I use instead of Soy, Soy Sauce, Tofu & Flaxseed?
If you are allergic to Omega 3 (Rapeseed Oil, Flaxseed Oil,etc.) and are OK with Omega 6 (Olive Oil, Sunflower Oil) you can use it to replace Omega 3 (Rapeseed Oil, Flaxseed Oil).
Hello Caludia,
I just wanted to say I love your blog posts!! Everything I am is there in your posts, and everything i need to do is also there!! Thanks for posting such good recipes. I saved your blog in my favorite.Coming from India, I am so happy to see your interest in Ayurveda.
Regards,
Subeena.
Great Blog. A Very enviro-friendly collection of Ayurveda recipes. Well Done.
What a wonderful blog! So glad I found you. The recipes are fantastic : )
This is by far the best and most helpful cookin site I've been to in my 27 years of existence! I love how you have pictures on everyone of your recipes and I can sensce the amount of love that resides within each one of your meals. Thank you for sharing your passion with the world and making it a better place for everyone!
Glad to find your webpage. The tough part about this is that I am a kapha and he is a vata. I m the one who cooks and making two different variations on most recipes is tough when you are on a VERY tight food budget.
To the Kapha Vata household, you do have one thing in common: you need food with heat! Try making one meal for both of you where compromises are made. For instance, cook millet (good for Kaphas) with well-cooked sweet potato and other Vata foods, and spice up with Kapha and Vata spices like ginger, cumin, coriander, etc. Keep it low-fat and low-salt for Kapha, and then at the table Vata can add some ghee or olive oil to the meal. Hope this helps!
Hey Fran!! It's Natasha from Athens, Greece, a pitta-kapha gal! Ayurveda has been a part of my everyday life for the past year and I'm also practising its therapeutic art of massage. Ayurveda is the to the most extense, the ultimate way to self inderstanding and self healing. It was nice to come by your blog, it's quite enlightening and very interesting to read! Keep up the very good work!
I have been practising auvedic food and lifestyle for around 1 year and came across your website when I was looking for vata/pitta pacifying cake recipes. I hit the jackpot and have shared your website with friends. Thankyou from the bottom of my heart for you wisdom and expereince and generosity. May the universe provide you abundantly.
Fran! LOVE your recipes! Do you have any advice for a vata living with a kapha? I'm a little confused on how to meet both our needs? thank you for all your time! i love you site!! :)
Thanks everyone!! To the last anonymous message: vatas and kaphas have "cold" in common, so if you make foods with "heat" (ie. heating spices like ginger and chilis and so many others, and/or eating hot foods rather than cold), that goes a long way. Err on the side of making kapha-friendly foods, do which the vata can add ghee or healthy oils, etc. I hope this gives some idea of a common direction! See if you can find recipes for vata-kaphas, too. :-)
Hi Fran. Just happened upon your site looking for walnut butter recipe. Also thinking of going wheat free. What is the easiest way to find the recipes? This site looks like it will work for me. Thanks!
Thank you for your wonderful site. I am recommending it to my readers at HSP Stress Relief.
Thanks anonymous and Mehill! To find wheat free recipes, just go to any recipe you want and see what the substitution recommendations are. Or always substitute wheat flour for your dosha-friendly flour. Hope this helps!
Hello - I look forward to cooking the date molasses scones this weekend, I am a vata type with vata and pitta imbalances(health issues), so will see how I go, I just love dates! Amanda (in Australia)
I LOVE your blog! I am 100% vata and have such a hard time finding recipes that suit me. I LOVE how you follow up every recipe saying what vata should eat and what to omit. So helpful! Please continue to post blogs and thank you for all your hard work!
Love your website and your recipes. Have tried several and they were very tasty.I am a vata and my hubby a pitta so your advice on ingredients for the individual doshas after each recipe is very helpful. Thanks for the great work.
Hi Claudia, your site is adorable and helpful. I was desperately searching for yoga poses for pitta types...i've had an acidity problem for quite some time and it feels to have worsened and now it's peptic ulcer...it's quite painful and i feel weak most parts of the day. Just hunting for more sites where i can watch and follow it everyday.
Thanks for sharing the info...it's clean and easy to go thru. Shall visit frequently. Wish me good and improved health.
Kind Regards,
indu
Hi Claudia! I'm cooking a mung beans and rice recipe you posted a few years back.....can't wait to eat it. Can you tell me how long it will keep in the refrigerator?
LOVE YOUR SITE.....I WILL BE BACK TO TRY SOME OF THE RECIPES THAT SOUND DELICIOUS
I just finished reading, "The Guru in You," by Yogi Cameron. It certainly answered so many questions I've been asking for such a long time. Ayurveda is very new to me and it is a lifestyle I am ready for. I have a Vata dosha, and it describes me to a 't'.
The only thing is his book doesn't have recipes. And so I've been surfing the internet and I have found really good sites. Yours in particular is wonderful because of all the delicious recipes. I can't wait to try them. Thanks so much.
Thank you so much! I am so grateful to find your site. As a newly gluten free, I'm truly enjoying all the recipes and connections you put out there. My problem is that I live in an extraordinarily rural town in Alaska and many of the ingredients that are called for aren't available to me. As I am new to your site, I'm not sure where I might find places I can order these online. Please help! and thanks again ;-)
Thank you so much for your website!
It's great to find a user-friendly site full of very practical information!
Just finished preparing beet quinoa salad.
Thank you for such a wonderful and resourceful site. Namaste.
Wonderful recipes! My husband and I took a 3 month ayurveda course in Tamil Nadu,India. We appreciate this info and want to pass it on to our clients. Thanks! Do you have a facebook page?
this is such a fantastic website! i love your wheat free chickpea/chocolate cake recipe
Your website is absolutely amazing. The recipes are delicious and dosha adjustments are so appreciated. I am so grateful for your generosity and creativity.
Hi Fran,
Love your blog. Its really nice to see some great ayurvedic recipes for a modern lifestyle. I am an Ayurvedic practitioner currently working on my blog Tastes Of Ayurveda. Sending you the link below. Your response would be highly appreciated :) and keep up the gud work
http://tastesofayurveda.blogspot.com/
Hi Fran, I've taken some of those "what's your Dosha quizes" and get varied results. When they ask questions likE do I have thin, early grey hair or thick wavy hair for example: I have thick, straight hair, some premature grey and a few thin areas so not sure how to best answer that question. There are other questions like that. Is there a way to approach these questions to get a better idea what "type" I am?
Thanks, Kelly
Hi my grandfather is Ayurvedic Doctor I was happy to stumble on your website I need to lose some weight so I am going to try some of your recipes. Thank you Jdy
Very excited to discover your site and can't wait to try your recipes. I love the individual V, P, K suggestions. Thank you :)
I just happened to cross your site on a search for ayruvedic recipes. I was impressed. Thank you and look forward to trying them!
Love your recipes especially the olive and walnut bread and the red lentil hummus.
I'm also a Vata built like a Kapha. Right there with you!
Claudia, I have a great book on Ayurvedic medicine but it doesn't have great recipes like your site. I will be delving in very shortly and can't wait to make some of the food.
Jackie
Hello! I've used your 2006 pookie recipe at least a dozen times. Thank you. Julia W.
I just found your site and I can't wait to try these recipes! I can't get the online diagnosis to work though. It keeps giving me an error notice to answer all the questions even though I have answered all of them. I've been diagnosed before as a Kapha Pitta so I have to figure out the best alternative suggestions on the recipes.
Dear claudia...
Fabuolous job...Loved your blog and all the tips you have shared I hope you add a follow gadget so that it will be easy to lookup your new posts
Thank you
Thank you for such a well written, easy to read, and very informative blog. I know I'll be returning to it over and over again. With Appreciation, Gwen
Thanks so much!
very impressed with your blog. Thats what exactly I have been looking for since long. I read lot about ayurveda and try to follow as much as I can but knowing my dosha and knowing foods I should avoid and I left out in a position I cant really cook with minimal ingredients. but now you have solved my problem. I am all set for my ayurvedic cooking. Thanks a bunch for your great effort. Is there a way I can subscribe to your blog to get regular updates.
This suit rocks! Better than any cookbook ive bought on ayurveda. will be checking in again x Jai guru Dev!
